The 65-metre super yacht Resilience is a luxury craft featuring modern furniture selected to interact with the outdoor in perfect harmony. We were pleased to work with Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi on an incredible, jellyfish-inspired lighting installation for this yacht.

The spark for the main lighting fixture the shape and colour of jellyfish living in the ocean. Designers wanted to capture the bubble track that a jellyfish creates while passing through the water. The result is a light piece that permeates the whole yacht, through the lower, main, upper and fly decks. There are 130 pieces of glass segments in total. Nineteen jellyfish, each with four tentacles, swim along a polished stainless steel twisted metal frame. The jellyfish were crafted from hand-blown, ribbed glass in a harmonious variety of sepia colours including crystal, caramel, amber, light amber, sunlight, darjeeling, and light bronze. Since the luminaire is part of the spiral staircase, guests climbing the stairs can experience the unique feeling of being under the surface of the sea, with glowing jellyfish moving gracefully around them.

Two more exquisite lighting fixtures grace the main saloon and master bedroom areas. The rectangular chandelier perfectly complements the backlit onyx wall of the main saloon. The second piece features two ring-shaped pieces connected to the ceiling at different heights, creating a luxurious atmosphere for the master bedroom. Both chandeliers consist of a polished stainless steel frame embedded with crystal cut prisms. These prisms capture the light and reflect it in rainbow colours onto the glossy ceilings.

As always when creating crystal lighting for yachts, safety is not only a top concern, but also an engineering challenge. The fixture cannot react to any resonance or movement from the ship, and has to withstand the salty, humid conditions of life at sea. With this lighting installation, our biggest challenge was to secure all the glass segments to the twisted metal rods to prevent any movement.
