Fairmont Century Plaza

Los Angeles, USA

The Fairmont Century Plaza is a storied Los Angeles hotel whose doors opened in 1966. A recent renovation has infused the property with new life, bringing the spirit of Los Angeles to its revamped guest rooms, suites, public spaces, and dining and entertainment areas. Preciosa Lighting collaborated with two design firms on this extensive project, adding our touch of crystal sparkle to the luxury property.

Working with the design team at EDG Design, we did something we know very well: reinvigorating classical chandeliers to fit modern interiors. The Constellation Room featured traditional chandeliers with a historical design from when the hotel was first opened. EDG tasked our team with creating something fresh and exciting, inspired by these classic beauties. The result was eight chandeliers dripping with more than 1400 trimmings each. The bronze finish featured a deeper patina for the Old World feel EDG requested. The Preciosa team took this project very seriously, duplicating the original metal castings and sourcing the original crystal shapes.  The final touch was creating wall sconces that complemented the chandeliers. This was achieved through long crystal tubes with light sources at both ends. This generates a sunburst of light from the top and bottom of each sconce.

Preciosa also worked closely with Yabu Pushelberg to create more contemporary light fixtures for a variety of spaces including The Fairmont Gold Lounge. The refined and harmonious feel given off by the delicate spheres can be found throughout the hotel's public spaces.

The renovation of the Fairmont Century Plaza is a stellar example of how modern design can blend seamlessly with classic elements. Preciosa Lighting is honoured to have contributed to the rebirth of this iconic Los Angeles landmark.
