We wanted to connect people through light by bringing the chandelier down to a personal level. Breath of Light is a unique and playful experience that unites people with a surprise and a smile.

Inspiration is all around

We take our glass making heritage and fast forward it to a place where contemporary lighting installations using cutting edge technology are designed and created. Breath of Light is the vision of Preciosa’s Creative Directors Michael Vasku and Andreas Klug.

The thoughtful design, cutting edge interactivity and emotional aspects of Breath of Light have been recognized with two design awards: Red Dot: Best of the Best for outstanding design quality in the Communication Design category and a German Design Award.

Milan Design Week

Breath of Light debuted at Milan Design Week 2018, one of the most important design fairs in the world.

 

Encompassing Experiences

Luxury is differentiated by what you can experience. We wanted to make positive connections and create emotions through interactive lighting Breath of Light. For us, the action had to be generated in real time and come as close to natural behaviour as possible. Customized sound was added to provide a deeper emotional atmosphere.

 

Interactive Inspiration

Breath of Light is not a static or looped interaction. The meeting of multiple breaths could happen because it wasn’t animated. The length, direction (which sensor the breath came from) and the optional meeting of breaths meant different results every time. This was important because for visitors it makes the outcome unpredictable every time.

 

Natural, Pure

To make the installation timeless, no colour was used except pure white. Four types of bubbles were chosen to create a path for the light. Each bubble, its size and colour were specifically placed so the desired effect would be easily experienced. We wanted to highlight the nature of crystal and glass. Some bubbles are irregular, like bubbles in real life, which give a more handmade character and showcases not only the nature of the material but also the natural craftsmanship.

 

Craftsmanship Above All Else

Breath of Light was handcrafted in Crystal Valley by people passionate about art and light. Materials locally sourced and lovingly crafted by glass masters are put to the technology test that comes from our innovative R&D team.

At Preciosa, glass and lighting masters constantly ask the question - how can we get the most from glass? The most emotion, the most atmosphere, the most connections? Our lights are handcrafted, infused with design, technology and a human touch.

 

Crystal Valley

Crystal Valley, Bohemia is the home of Preciosa Lighting. Thanks to the region’s natural wealth and especially due to local craftsmanship and talent, the area’s glassmaking traditions have remained unspoiled for centuries.

 

Cultivation of Chandeliers

Since 1724, Preciosa has produced and cultivated chandeliers according to original Bohemian traditions. The very highest standards of craftsmanship and unique technical knowledge make Preciosa one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fine glass chandeliers.

 

Innovation Success

As strangers shared a breath, they also exchanged a smile as a magical wave of light and sound rolled through the interactive installation and lit up the room. Much like the eyes of visitors as they experienced Breath of Light for the first time.
